Why do muscles tighten painfully when tensed after they are overworked?
I don't mean the typical day-after soreness of using muscles that you haven't used in a while.
I mean, for instance, when I haven't walked long distances regularly in a while and suddenly I spend the whole day walking or the whole night dancing, and if I tense the muscles a certain way, they twist up and tighten painfully. I can actually see the shape it makes under my skin when it happens and I was just wondering what causes muscles to do that.

answer:
its cramping and yes its very painful. its caused by lactic acid. the muscles are being over used to what they normally used to. they will get better with rest or regular exercise.

I usually go kickboxing every week but if i go kickboxing after not doing it for a while, the next day i usually get those sort of pains in my tummy muscles and thighs and it hurts when sitting up and stuff.
I think its just cause the muscles havent been used like that lately. :) it wil go away after a few days
