Can I buy frames to fit my old lenses?

Can I buy frames to fit my old lenses?
The frames of my glasses are broken beyond repair but the lenses are still good. I'm looking to just fit the lenses into some cheap frames to save money. How plausible is this and what' the best place to do it?

answer:
There is a couple things you could do:

1] get another set of the same frames as what you have and transfer the lenses into them. (This might also work if you can find frames that are VERY similar in shape and distance around the perimeter of the lens).

2] pick out some smaller frames and get the lenses re-cut to fit them. (Note: this may or may not be practical, because they need to make sure you are looking through the centers of the lenses as well as making sure the cut down lenses fill all of the frame opening.

Sometimes the cost of doing either of these is enough that you might as well put the money towards a new pair.

There are some web sites that sell pretty cheap glasses such as www.zennioptical.com and www.glassesshop.com; take a look, you might find you can get complete glasses there for less than fixing your old ones.

the original manufacturer would be your best bet.

As long as the frame you choose is smaller than your original this is easily done. It is best to get it done at an Opticians as they will need to make sure your lenses are going to still be centered correctly in your new frame. This process is usually carried out at 'your own risk' and you will be charged a small amount on top of the frame price for this service (approx £5-£10).

Hope This Helps
