Hole in my tooth for about 2 years?
Ok so I needed a filling in my tooth just over 2 years ago, and I had it done, but I think the dentist drilled a hole too wide, because the edge of my tooth now is really thin, then a piece broke off, then another piece. Its been like this now for about 2 years, and I feel no pain atall. I'm just wondering if anything can happen if I don't get it checked out. I also need braces and when I went to the dentist he said it had to be removed before I could have a brace.

Also, I have a really bad phobia of dentists, thats why I havent had it removed, plus im scared because the tooth is so brittle that if they remove it, its just going to shatter and leave the roots???
answer:
If there is a hole in your tooth still and raw edges then particles of food can decay the enamel at a faster pace. The worst that will happen is that the tooth will start to decay eventually. However if you were told you would have to have it removed before getting braces then you probably shouldn't worry too much about taking great care of it. If you do get it removed, the dentist will know what they are doing and wouldn't leave the roots in the gum :) Hope this comforts you somewhat
Dentists are trained to extract teeth, even if it breaks they are trained to remove the roots. Its not as scary as it sounds, its actually quite simple. Alot of my patients say they would rather have a tooth out than fillings. Its a very very simple procedure. You will be fine!
